Ryan Whitney, a Seattle-based IT entrepreneur, decided to volunteer as an Afghan eQuality Alliances fellow in May 2007.

Asked to reflect on what he has accomplished in Kabul, Ryan writes:  "First off I'd like to thank you all, I had a great time in Kabul and will never forget it (not that I can, I feel like a minor celebrity when I tell people... its how I'm commonly introduced these days)."

Ryan worked with ANGeL staff Qudsia and Freshta to empower them with ownership of the lab. He helped them establish  a  Linux setup for all the computers,  a proper server room, and set up  an ANGeL mirror site. He also worked with volunteers from KMU to start setting up the KMU ANGeL Center, provided an IT improvement plan for the Institute of Diplomacy, worked with IT Center at KU on the beginnings of an IT strategy, and helped draft a requirements for a Student Information System.
